This information can be used to estimate your cost of attending CMU and financial aid for which you are eligible.

Direct Costs: Tuition, Room & Board, Fees

  • $27,030 - Tuition (12-18 hours per semester)

Indirect Costs: Books, Supplies, Optional Services

  • 1. Books / Supplies (est. $1000 when bought directly from Bookstore)
  • 2. Class dependent charges - lab fees, private music lessons, specialized supplies, etc.
  • 3. Personal spending - transportation, clothes, incidentals, meals out, entertainment
  • 4. Parking fee - ($70 per year; $35 per semester) subject to change
  • 5. CMU 101 book fee - one-time charge ($15) subject to change
  • 6. Health Insurance - (estimate $120 per month)

Payment:

The Business Office will prepare monthly billing statements and publish financial readiness deadlines prior to the beginning of each semester. Several payment plans are available on the student's myCMU account. Payment options for each term may be also found on the CMU Business Office page. For questions regarding a bill or payment, contact the Business Office at 660-248-6207.

Financial Assistance:

There are many sources and types of financial assistance. The first step is to complete and return the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) to the International Student Services Office.

The ISFAA is used to calculate the estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC), a measure of financial need. Please call the International Student Services Office at 660-248-6248 with any questions.

Note: International students must submit proof of financial support before the I-20 can be issued. The required documents are:

  1. International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA)
  2. Financial Statement / Affidavit of Support
  3. Letter from the sponsor's bank confirming that the amount indicated on the Affidavit is available for the student's support
  4. Confirmation of 3rd party funding (government, business, etc.) if applicable

Sources of Financial Assistance

Institutional Aid

  • 1. Academic Scholarships: Freshman awards are based on GPA and ACT. Transfer awards are based on transfer GPA. Freshman awards range from $4,000 to $12,000 per academic year. Transfer awards range from $3,000 to $11,000 per academic year.

  • 2. Participatory Scholarships: Scholarships are awarded by merit based upon a coach, director, or faculty member's discretion. Some types of participatory scholarships can be combined with other institutional scholarships. Participatory scholarships include: Athletics, Spirit Squad, Fine and Performing Arts, Campus Ministry, and Civic Engagement.

  • 3. Methodist ½ Tuition Scholarship: Students must have a 2.5 GPA or higher to Qualify. This scholarship is non-stackable.

  • 4. Additional Scholarships: Legacy and Sibling.

  • 5. CMU Work Study: On campus employment for students pays minimum wage ($7.85/hour) up to 20 hours/week. There is limited availability.

Scholarship Opportunities:

The United Methodist Dollars for Scholars (UMDFS) Program provides $1,000 matching scholarships to United Methodist students who have received a $1,000 scholarship from their local United Methodist Church to help them attend a Methodist-related college, university, or seminary. Applications must be submitted between January 1 and March 1. There are limited scholarships available. Information including qualification of the program and how the program operates may be found on the website.

The United Methodist Women International Ministries with Women, Children and Youth Scholarship (IMC) Program: Designed to enable women and youth from outside the United States to receive leadership development opportunities to strengthen their contribution to the betterment of society. There are a few important things to remember:

  • 1. Attach all supporting documents needed for your application.
  • 2. Keep your password safe for future use.
  • 3. Scholarship DEADLINE: Mid January each year (check website for exact date)
  • 4. The submission of an application does not guarantee a scholarship award.
  • 5. Please add mail@grantapplication.com to your safe senders list.

Outside Loans

UMC Loan information: available to United Methodist Church members who attend any UMC affiliated college or university, regardless of nationality. Information regarding qualifications and the application process for the program may be found on the web site.
