What can I expect to learn?
A Central Methodist University degree in biology is as diverse as the future you wish to create. Our biology degrees allow you to carve out the right role for yourself in the scientific community so that you can make a difference in the world. Here, you can find your passion and discover opportunities to pursue your career. Our coursework will further develop your skills in science, communication, mathematics, and problem-solving. Depending on your classes, you will have opportunities to learn about cells, anatomy, physiology, genetics, taxonomy, evolution, and ecology.
What technology will I use in this major?
In courses focused on genetics and cells, you will learn how to use bioinformatics to compare DNA sequences and build phylogenetic trees, examine DNA and proteins using electrophoresis and antibody staining, and examine tissues using histological methods. In field biology courses, you will learn how to use geographic information systems, mobile apps, chemical tests, field collection techniques, and data analysis tools to identify, monitor, and study animals, plants, and other parts of ecosystems.
Will I have opportunities for internships and hands-on learning experiences?
As a CMU biology major, you will complete a capstone internship or a research project and present your project to faculty and students at our Interdisciplinary Science Seminar. There will also be hands-on learning in every lab course.

Graduates of CMU's biology program are working in a variety of settings and fields, including graduate and professional schools, for the Missouri Department of Conservation, in both medicine and veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, biological and diagnostic labs, pharmacy, chiropractor, K-12 education, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, genetic counseling, and many other areas. The skills biologists possess may also be in demand for jobs in industry, government, universities, the military, and research.
