Bomb Threat Procedure
All bomb threats are to be handled as a critical incident situation requiring immediate and decisive action. If you receive notification from anyone making such a threat act accordingly using these procedures:
Threat received by phone:
- Remain calm;
- Try to remember as much information about the phone call as possible.
- Immediately advise a CMU official and local law enforcement (call 911) and wait for instructions;
- If instructed to evacuate, you should evacuate the building and move to a safe distance as determined by a CMU official or emergency personnel;
- Keep streets and walkways clear for emergency personnel;
- Do not return to an evacuated building unless directed to do so by emergency personnel or CMU official;
- If/when the caller hangs up DO NOT dial out on the same phone.
Threat received by postal mail:
- Remain calm;
- Do not allow anyone to handle the package. Leave the immediate area;
- Immediately advise a CMU official and local law enforcement (call 911) and wait for instruction;
- If instructed to evacuate, you should evacuate the building and move to a safe distance as determined by a CMU official or emergency personnel;
- Keep streets and walkways clear for emergency personnel;
- Do not return to an evacuated building unless directed to do so by emergency personnel or CMU official;
