GENERAL SUMMARY:
The English Department at Central Methodist University invites applications for the nine-month, full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of English position at our residential campus in Fayette, MO starting in August 2025. As a generalist, the successful candidate will teach 12 credit hours (4 courses) each semester which may include General Education courses such as: first-year composition I and II, Introduction to Literature, Comics and Graphic Novels, Young Adult Literature, Advanced Research Writing, Advanced Workplace Writing, Topics in Writing, and/or additional literature courses as needed.

Cover letters should address the candidate's innovative teaching philosophy and practice, how they will contribute to and enhance our general education offerings at Central Methodist University, how they may participate in the current rotation of English courses at CMU, and what special topics/new course ideas they believe would engage our student population.
We will begin reviewing applications on February 14, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
A Ph.D. in English, Rhetoric & Composition, Professional Writing, or related field is required. The successful candidate will be committed to working with students at a teaching-focused university and show evidence of innovative teaching and course development.
Areas of teaching specialty and interest may include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:
Contemporary 21st century literatures
Multi-ethnic literatures
Digital Humanities
Transmedia Studies
First-year Composition
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Preparing for and teaching classes: 40%
Providing grades and feedback in a timely manner: 30%
Attending Division and/or Department meetings: 10%
Attending Committee meetings and/or University service: 10%
Office hours: 10%
Perform other duties as assigned
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Integrating iPads into classroom practice.
Experience using Microsoft Office products.
Experience using the Canvas course management system.
