Position Title: Director of Student Activities         

Position Accountable to: Vice President for Student Life

 GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director of Student Activities is responsible for providing educational co-curricular programs and activities for university students. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life, the Director will offer a comprehensive range of leadership development and service-learning opportunities for CMU students. This role will focus on delivering robust first-year programming events, including the Eagle Connect initiatives, as well as other opportunities for the entire campus community. The Director will demonstrate excellent leadership and organizational skills, ensuring regular opportunities for staff and students to engage, and will collaborate effectively with academic departments, administrators, and faculty to develop diverse student activities and programs. This position will oversee a graduate assistant, assistant coordinator, lifeguard staff, and student staff at the recreation center.                                                              

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the Eagle Connect initiative to engage the CMU (Central Methodist University) first-year students. Provide historical and present data for the program. Assess and improve engagement opportunities
  • Develop, coordinate, and assess a comprehensive student activities program of educational, recreational, social, and cultural programs which appeal to a diverse audience at the college
    and in the community. Included is Intramural sports program.
  • Provide direct oversight of the Phillips-Robb Recreational Center, including managing facility scheduling, pool operations, fitness room maintenance, and overall facility management. This includes ensuring all areas are properly maintained, coordinating staff schedules, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all users.
  • Provide oversight of a comprehensive Intramural Program, ensuring a diverse range of recreational sports and activities are offered to students. This includes planning, organizing, and coordinating intramural leagues and tournaments, managing staff and volunteers, and ensuring all safety protocols and equipment standards are met.
  • Use assessment to solicit feedback on student activities Facilitate collaboration, innovation and creativity among students, faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Jointly responsible for creation and implementation of New Student Orientation, Fair on the Square, Family weekend, homecoming, and the Presidents Dinner and other departmental needs.
  • Work with campus departments, personnel and faculty advisers, off-campus vendors, speakers and local law enforcement to ensure all Student Activities program objectives are successfully achieved.
  • Coordinate and assist the Student Government program at CMU including training, mentoring, and elections procedures.
  • Coordinate and oversee the National Society of Leadership and Success.
  • Contribute to the department's overall success by performing all other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participation on College committees as assigned;
  • Effectively and efficiently manage student life budgets.
  • Assist on special projects, cooperative programming, participate as a team member in all aspects of the Student Life department.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: An undergraduate degree is required; a master's is preferred. Three plus years of work experience in student activities is preferred.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regularly required to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must work on a computer for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

The coordinator should be proficient in several computer programs including word, excel and PowerPoint. They should be able to become a Certified pool operator along with obtaining lifeguard and CPR certifications.

Pass the Certified Pool Operator training course.
