Position Title: Campus Safety Officer
Position Accountable To: Director of Plant Operations / Director of Campus Safety
GGENERAL SUMMARY:
Professional safety officer to provide excellent customer service to our students, faculty and staff. Provide protection to assets, personnel, and students and to report any suspicious behavior on and around campus to authorities. This person will maintain a highly visible presence and promote a safe, secure and responsible campus atmosphere. Detecting, deterring, observing and reporting are key duties. This is a full-time position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Protect University employees, students and property by promoting a safe campus and safety awareness.
- Observe campus and facilities for signs of crime, vandalism and unsafe behavior and investigate as needed.
- Initiate proactive means of protecting life or property.
- Take accurate notes and make reports of unusual or suspicious occurrences.
- Regularly patrol campus and facilities.
- Monitor and control access at building entrances.
- Monitor parking lots and enforce parking regulations.
- Monitor alarm systems and video cameras and operate emergency systems.
- Perform basic First Aid, CPR and AED.
- Assist Grounds and Maintenance with snow removal
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Work experience as a security/safety guard or in a related field.
- Customer Service Experience.
- Ability to operate vehicles and equipment and valid Class E driver’s license.
- Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.
- Surveillance skills and attention to detail.
- ALICE training (Can be provided on site).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to lift 75lbs.
- Must be able to spend extended periods on foot whether standing or walking in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to climb stairs, and ladders.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Computer knowledge to send and receive email messages.
- Word processing (Daily Safety Activity Reports).
- Microsoft Excel (data entry)
- Understanding of Campus Alert System and how it works.
- Basic understanding of smart phone systems and usage.
- Integrity and professionalism
OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Work Schedule to include evenings 6pm to 8am M-Thursday and weekends 6pm Friday to 8am Monday morning.
- Work Schedules will include working on holidays and as needed for special events.
- Pre-employment Background Screening required. This is an essential personnel position and is required to be on campus during designated work hours.
- Essential security positions are required to be at work even if campus is closed due to inclement weather.
