Swinney Conservatory of Music
The Swinney Conservatory of Music at Central Methodist University has a long legacy of excellence. The Conservatory was established in 1927 and has been a member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1950. Students in the Conservatory participate in many recitals and concerts throughout the year, and hosts numerous visiting artists and special events.
Festivals, Camps, and Events
The CMU Swinney Conservatory of Music holds several festivals and music camps on the Fayette campus throughout the year. Everyone is welcome to attend the public performances for each event.
Oboe Day: October 6, 2019. Join CMU professor of oboe, Dr. Alison Robuck, on October 6 in Classic Hall for an oboe masterclass, playing chamber music, and learning about reed making. It’s sure to be a great day of learning and meeting other oboists! Register here!
Voice Invitational: October 10, 2019. At this event, you will have the opportunity to work with our experienced faculty as you develop your vocal technique and musical skills. You also can sing with a CMU choir, learn more about the voice program at CMU, visit with Admissions staff, and talk to our students about life at Central. Central's Got Talent: January 31, 2020. Central’s Got Talent is an annual event for students in their senior year. Two full-tuition scholarships will be awarded after competition. Also, we will award major scholarships to the top three winners in each category. Upon application/registration, students may receive an invitation from the Office of Admissions to compete for scholarship awards in one of five categories: vocal, instrumental, praise band, theatre, and theatre design. The event is open to parents and families. It provides opportunities to see the campus and learn about financial aid, student services, and a variety of other helpful information. Note: Full-tuition scholarship winners are required to live on campus. Register here!
Brass Invitational: February 20, 2020. The Swinney Conservatory of Music invites you to the CMU Brass Invitational. At this event, you will have the opportunity to work with our experienced faculty as you develop your technique and musical skills. You also can learn more about the music program at CMU, visit with Admissions staff, and spend time with our students.
Alumni Choir: April 4, 2020. Alumni of Central’s choirs from every generation are invited to CMU for a day of rehearsals and memories, as well as an evening concert at 7 p.m., which will be open to the public in Linn Memorial United Methodist Church on the CMU campus.

State Festival Coaching Day: April 17, 2020. The faculty at CMU have over 100 years of experience in preparing students for State Music Festival and this year we want to help you! Join us for State Festival Coaching Day and spend time working with knowledgeable teachers who have helped hundreds of students prepare successful performances at State.
Summer Music Camp: June 30 - July 2, 2020. The CMU Summer Music Camp is held each July for students in grades 7-12 for band and 8-12 for choir. It’s a great chance to sharpen skills while making new friends in a fun environment.
Band Day: Saturday, October 12, 2019. CMU Band Day is an annual fall event designed to be an educational experience for students and directors. Schools may participate in any category including Parade, Field, Indoor Color Guard, and Indoor Drum Line. Band Day is a MSHSAA-sanctioned event with schools classified per MSHSAA Official School Enrollment Information.
Music Festival: February 28, 2020. Music Fest is an annual spring event open to middle and high school students. Students can perform vocal or instrumental solos and in small or large ensembles. The CMU Music Festival is a MSHSAA sanctioned event.
